Cilente Bosman's picture

GreatArt logoOur latest prize draw is a fantastic opportunity of winning a £75 gift voucher to spend on art supplies at GreatArt.co.uk.

Whether you're into painting, drawing, calligraphy, ceramics, textiles or hobby craft, there is an amazing range of quality art supplies to choose from at GreatArt.

The sculpting and carving range includes various soapstones and soapstone starter kits, as well as white and blue alabaster.  If you've ever fancied giving carving a try, soapstone is an easy to work material to start out with and is also about 10 to 20 times cheaper than carving stones like marble or sandstone.  It is very versatile and can be used to create large sculptures as well as small pieces, like fantasy jewellery.  Soapstone is 10 times softer than diamond and is so called because it feels like a dry bar of soap. read more »

Five Top Tips on How to Pair Food and Wine

Heidi Oosthuizen's picture

On Friday night, I went out for a lovely meal and had a glass of the most delicious Merlot I’ve ever tasted.  Then, after a few mouth fulls of the peri peri chicken I ordered, I had another sip.  Big mistake.

The snooty waiter was only too happy to tell me (afterwards) that one should never pair spicy food with red wine, as it ruins the taste.  This intrigued me and when Saturday morning rolled by, I decided to learn more about the art of pairing food and wine.

I went to the KWV wine Emporium in Paarl, South Africa.  They give very informative courses on how to pair snacks and wine and how to pair brandy and chocolate. read more »
